In Loving Memory of Dean Herndon Short

January 24, 1944 - January 14, 2024

Frances “Dean” Herndon Short, a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, passed away January 14, 2024 at her home in Waverly, Tennessee, surrounded by her family.  Her departure leaves an enduring void in the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing this remarkable woman. She was born in Russellville, Kentucky on January 24, 1944, to her loving parents, Edward Dean Herndon, Sr. and Lucille Wilson Herndon.

Dean Short was a pillar of strength to her loved ones, bringing joy to their lives through her nurturing spirit and unwavering love. As a devoted homemaker, she dedicated herself to creating a warm and inviting home, always putting the needs of her family above all else. Known for her green thumb, Dean had a passion for gardening and took great pride in her beautifully manicured flowerbeds that bloomed with vibrant colors every year. She was the owner of Hal's Jewelry in Waverly and retired after 24 years of devoted service from Lakeview Elementary School where she served as the secretary and bookkeeper. Later, Dean found fulfilling work as a Top Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant, brightening the lives and boosting the confidence of countless individuals with her genuine care and expertise. Her warm smile and gentle touch made her an invaluable presence in the lives of those she served. Dean Short's unwavering faith and dedication to the New Johnsonville Church of Christ provided her with solace and strength throughout her life. She actively participated in church activities, enriching the lives of her fellow congregants, and fostering a sense of community that was deeply cherished. Beyond her professional achievements and community involvement, Dean Short's greatest accomplishment was her family. Her three children, Nancy, Deborah, and Hal, were her world. They provided her with 10 grandchildren that she loved more than life itself. And then, when she thought life couldn't possibly get better, she became a great-grandmother.  She loved and cared for her babies deeply. Dean was the epitome of love and happiness and it was all because of the joy her family brought to her. Her memory will forever be cherished by her dear family, who will carry on her legacy of love, kindness, and joy.
